Chery, Geely Included into China’s Top 10 Automakers for 2005

Chery Automobile Co., Ltd. and Geely Holding Group were included in the list of China's top 10 automakers for 2005 for the first time, according to data released by China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) on January 13.

BEIJING — Chery Automobile Co., Ltd. and Geely Holding Group were included in the list of China’s top 10 automakers for 2005 for the first time, according to data released by China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) on January 13.

The top 10, which held more than 80 percent of the market, are as follows: China FAW Group Corp. (CFGC), Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp. (Group) (SAIC), Dongfeng Motor Corp., Chang’an Automobile Group Co., Ltd. (Chang’an Automobile), Beijing Automotive Industry Corp. (BAIC), Guangzhou Automobile Industry Group Co., Ltd. (GAIG), Hafei Motor Co., Ltd., Chery, Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Co., Ltd. (JAC) and Geely.

Sales for the top five automakers, CFGC, SAIC, Dongfeng Motor, Chang’an Automobile and Beijing Automobile, amounted to 983,100 units, 917,500 units, 729,000 units, 631,100 units and 597,300 units respectively. Sales for Dongfeng Motor and BAIC increased by 40 percent and 12 percent separately. The sales of Anhui-based Chery topped 189,000 vehicles in 2005, a year-on-year surge of 118 percent. The sales of Geely, the nation’s earliest and largest private automaker, reached 149,000 vehicles in the year, jumping by 49 percent over 2004.
