Champion Spark Plugs Win Big in Brickyard 400, NHRA Mile-High Nationals

Champion powered the engines of the top three Chevrolet finishers at Brickyard.

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. — Champion spark plugs from Federal-Mogul Corp. dominated professional motorsports action this weekend by powering the top four finishers in Sunday’s NASCAR Brickyard 400 Sprint Cup race and capturing the Top Fuel title in the NHRA Mile-High Nationals.

In the Brickyard 400, Champion spark plugs powered the engines of the top three Chevrolet finishers — race-winner Jamie McMurray, second-place finisher Kevin Harvick and fourth-place finisher Clint Bowyer. Champion plugs also powered third-place finisher Greg Biffle’s No. 16 Ford engine.

In NHRA Top Fuel action at Denver’s Bandimere Speedway, Champion plugs powered Doug Kalitta’s 8,000-hp Kalitta Air dragster to a title-winning 3.96-second/308-mph pass. Kalitta’s Champion-powered dragster also posted the quickest run of the event, ripping off a 3.92-second run at 311.33 mph.

"The Champion brand once again delivered superior power and durability in two of the world’s most demanding racing series," said Michael Proud, North American marketing director, Federal-Mogul. "Quarter-mile runs of over 311 miles per hour and 400 miles of intense competition in extreme temperatures at Indy demonstrate why Champion is recognized as the ‘Performance Driven’ brand of spark plugs."

Champion plugs and other technologies from Federal-Mogul are featured in the company’s "Smart Choice" consumer education campaign, designed to reinforce the message that longer lasting, better performing premium replacement products are today’s best option for virtually any common automotive repair.
