Bridgestone Surpasses 200M Commercial Tire Sensor Readings

Bridgestone Fleet Care allows fleet operators to address tire-related issues, aiming to reduce downtime.

Bridgestone Americas has achieved a record in its integration of tire monitoring services in the United States, with over 200 million annual tire pressure readings in 2023. This figure represents the company’s highest yearly total for tire pressure readings across its truck and bus radial (TBR) and off-the-road (OTR) segments.

The technology behind Bridgestone Fleet Care combines hardware with a software application, the company said. This system is designed to enable fleet operators to address tire-related issues, aiming to reduce maintenance, minimize downtime and enhance driver safety. Users of this service can access data, including tire inflation pressure and temperature, to monitor the condition of each tire throughout its lifecycle.

Jon Kimpel, president of Advanced Tire Solutions at Bridgestone Mobility Solutions, commented on the success of the integration. “It is exciting to see Bridgestone’s Fleet Care’s tire monitoring service integrate with many fleets and customers across the market,” he said. “As a result, customers have begun to experience the benefits of this technology as part of a tire program through Bridgestone.”

Commercial fleets using this technology have reported improvements in efficiency and cost savings, attributed to the real-time, data-driven insights provided by the system, Bridgestone said. For example, in Yakima, Washington, the city has installed over 225 sensors on 22 vehicles, resulting in nearly 6 million sensor readings. This implementation has led to a 98% reduction in road service for Yakima’s waste fleet and a daily time savings of one to two hours by using the mobile app to monitor air pressure.

The expansion of Bridgestone Fleet Care’s tire monitoring service is part of the company’s E8 Commitment, which includes eight values starting with the letter “E”: Energy, Ecology, Efficiency, Extension, Economy, Emotion, Ease, and Empowerment. This commitment reflects Bridgestone’s goal to collaborate with employees, society, partners, and customers in building a sustainable society.
