Automotive aluminium supplier Alcan Automotive has opened a new manufacturing facility in Novi, Mich. The new plant is first phase of Alcan’s North American expansion. Cooper Tire to Supply Formula Drift Championship Series

Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. announced a partnership with the Formula Drift Championship Series. Under the agreement, Cooper will supply its ultra high performance Zeon ZPT tire to Formula Drift cars. The tiremaker also will have signage at each event, and its Mobile Tour will make select appearances at Formula Drift events.

Bridgestone, Michelin Criticize F1 Single-Source Strategy

Bridgestone Corp. and Michelin are speaking out against a plan to eliminate one of them from Formula One auto racing in 2006 to cut teams’ costs and reduce the impact of tire choice on racing. The 10 teams want a single tire supplier to reduce the more than $300 million a year they spend for testing and the more than $40 million a year required to operate a team, according to Max Mosley, president of Formula One’s ruling body.

Goodyear Files Antitrust Lawsuit for Price Fixing

Goodyear Tire & Rubber has filed an antitrust lawsuit against suppliers of Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM) alleging price fixing and anti-competitive conduct in violation of the federal Sherman Act antitrust laws. EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) is a synthetic rubber that is used in rubber-containing products to improve their strength, and EPDM has excellent resistance to heat, oxidation, ozone and weather aging due to its stable, saturated polymer structure. Goodyear uses EPDM in tires, hoses and belts, for example.

Motorcar Parts of America Expands Supply Relationship with AutoZone

Motorcar Parts of America (MPA), has signed an agreement to become the primary provider of import alternators and starters to AutoZone. Under the new, multi-year agreement, MPA will be the primary supplier of alternators and starters in the import category for AutoZone’s eight U.S. distribution centers. MPA currently supplies four of AutoZone’s distribution centers.

“Brain Reserve” Consultant to Address the Impact of Female Consumers on the Aftermarket at GAAS

Tiffany Vasilchik, a senior consultant with Faith Popcorn’s Brain Reserve firm, will address the subject of the emerging influence of women on the aftermarket. Her presentation — “Futurescape: How Trends and The Female Consumer Are Driving Change in the Automotive Aftermarket” — will take place on Tuesday, May 18 at the Global Automotive Aftermarket Symposium (GAAS) in Chicago.

Beck/Arnley Opens Customer Care Centers

Beck/Arnley announced the opening of its sixth Customer Care Center, located in Dallas, Texas. Additional Customer Care Centers are located in Stockton, Calif., Los Angeles, Calif., Chicago, Ill., Harrisburg, Pa., and Miami, Fla. According to Max Dull, vice president and general manager of Beck/Arnley, the company has achieved its goal of launching six centers by early 2004.
