Brembo Announces Winners of Second Annual Hackathon

This year's competition aligned with Brembo's vision of "Turning Energy Into Inspiration."

Brembo recently concluded its second Hackathon, a data and artificial intelligence event aimed at innovating the mobility sector. This competition aligns with Brembo’s vision of “Turning Energy Into Inspiration” and seeks to discover new solutions beyond conventional innovation methods.

The Hackathon presented several challenges, with significant prizes for the winning teams. In the generative AI and brake pad creation challenge, Team Elleman emerged victorious, earning a $10,000 prize. The team’s approach combined generative AI with traditional machine learning techniques to develop new braking pad compounds and predict their performance. This methodology has the potential to expedite the development and testing of groundbreaking braking materials, Brembo said. The second-place team, Brembot Alpha, received a $3,000 prize.

Another challenge focused on synthetic data for warranty classification. The winning team, WarranTeam, was awarded a $10,000 prize for leveraging advanced AI language models to generate data that improved the accuracy of a claim classification model, especially in identifying rare failure modes. The second-place team, Warranty Warriors, earned a $2,000 prize.

The winners were chosen from more than 50 competitors by a jury led by Daniele Schillaci, Brembo CEO, the company said. The jury included several Brembo executives.

Additionally, an online phase extended the competition, allowing in-depth analysis and mentorship from Brembo experts. The winning team for this phase, 4th Runner Up, employed linear programming and compound distributions to generate new candidate compounds, earning a $2,000 prize.

The event took place at the Brembo Inspiration Lab in Silicon Valley. It was supported by Accenture, Foundin, Offit Kurman and Vodafone.
