Polk before joining the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute (UMTRI), from which he retired in 2018. He has more than 30 years of researching the automotive industry. His current research topics include intelligent transportation systems (ITS), information technology, powertrain strategies and globalization of the automotive industry.
