Changes in the distribution sector garnered a lot of attention from aftermarketNews (AMN) readers this week. Yesterday on AMN, we reported that Quebec-based program group Uni-Select was further expanding in the U.S. with its acquisition of Parts Distributors LLC. Parts Distributors, a Parts Plus member, operates 16 retail locations and one distribution center active in the States of New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Maryland.
We received more news from the world of programmed distribution when the Automotive Distribution Network announced that its member Parts Plus of New Mexico purchased the assets of J & J Auto Parts, a former Federated distributor in the Albuquerque, NM, market.
Continuing on the topic of parts distribution, Counterman contributing writer Bob Balderston’s recent article “The Dealer Dilemma” was also one of AMN’s most read articles this week. In his article, Balderston writes about car dealerships infiltrating the parts market.
AMN readers were also interested to learn more about what IMC is doing to help streamline business for repair shops working with import nameplates. In our Executive Interview this week Thomas Beer, president and CEO of California-based IMC, talks about the new parts numbering system for import parts that IMC recently introduced.
Two other stories of note this week that were highly read: CSK Auto’s appointment of former CompUSA exec Michael Bryk as its new controller and senior vice president of finance; and Armor All’s new joint venture with wiper blade manufacturer Jamak, to produce Armor All-branded wiper blades.
