This week’s big hitter in terms of readership was the announcement of Amazon.com’s new online auto parts store. The virtual parts retailer offers consumers the ability to search and locate more than 100,000 parts for more than 10,000 different American cars and trucks. The success of Amazon’s venture into auto parts retailing could have a major impact on the future of auto parts retail and distribution.
The second most read story of the past week told of the executive promotions made recently at CSK Auto. The automotive parts retailer has promoted Dale Ward to executive vice president. John Saar has been promoted to senior vice president of commercial sales and Randi Morrison to senior vice president, general counsel and secretary.
Reports that O’Reilly Auto Parts’ profit fell 2 percent was also of high interest to aftermarketNews readers this week. The historically successful parts retailer said it is happy with third quarter results in light of current economic conditions.
Other widely-read news stories from the past week involved reports of acquisitions in the aftermarket including Snap-on’s acquisition of ProQuest Business Solutions, buyout firm Ripplewood Holdings’ possible bid for bankrupt Delphi and BBB Industries’ acquisition of New York-based Genco Auto Electrical.
Affinia’s announcement that it will close its Cuba, MO, Brake Parts Inc. plant, and our bi-monthly column “Ask the Industry” column, which explored ways aftermarket companies forecast future business projects, also received a high number of hits this week.
