Statistical analysis of our weekly news coverage on aftermarketNews (AMN) can be very telling as to what aftermarket executives are concerned about these days. This week was no exception. Our bi-monthly R. L. Polk & Co.’s Ask the Industry column, which provided insider perspective on the growing trend of cherry picking aftermarket suppliers today, was widely read, letting us know that this is an important concern for AMN readers.
Another AMN exclusive, our weekly column The Pulse, which looks at buying, sourcing and brand-loyalty habits of counter professionals and professional technicians, was also a popular online destination for AMN readers this week. For this week’s edition of The Pulse, we looked at the top five challenges repair shop managers face. Data for the article was culled from Industrial Marketing Research’s (IMR) recent Installer Survey.
AMN readers were also interested to learn more about the additional management changes taking place at Advance Auto Parts. Following the recent departure of CEO Mike Coppola, we learned earlier this week that more changes have taken place. Dave Mueller has resigned as executive vice president, merchandising and marketing. Mueller joined Advance in March 2003 and has held his current position since November 2004. In conjunction with his departure, Elwyn Murray, III, has assumed additional responsibilities and will now serve as executive vice president, merchandising, supply chain and technology.
The editorial staff of aftermarketNews also broke the news this week that CARDONE Industries has purchased the assets Crown Remanufacturing. The two competing remanufacturers are both based in Philadelphia, PA. Both are privately held businesses.
Another highly read news item on AMN this week told of Toyota’s newly enhanced Toyota Wholesale Parts website, which allows repair shops to order "Toyota Fast Moving Parts" online, directly from their designated Toyota dealer. The site also links to the subscription-based Technical Information System (TIS), a resource with scalable views of Toyota parts and assemblies, wiring diagrams, repair manuals and Toyota Technical Service Bulletins.
