In our weekly analysis of the most read news stories on aftermarketNews this week, Advance Auto Parts lead the ranks on two separate days. On Tuesday it was announced that Advance plans to open a New DC in Indiana. More than 600 new jobs will be created in the region as a result.
Later in the week, Advance Auto Parts reported increased sales for the fourth quarter and full year, 2006. In the fourth quarter, sales increased to $1.02 billion from $964 million last year. Comparable-store sales increased 1.6 percent in the quarter, comprised of a 0.3 percent decrease in do-it-yourself (DIY) and a 7.9 percent increase in do-it-for-me (DIFM). For the year, sales grew to $4.62 billion from $4.26 billion last year. Comparable-store sales increased 2.1 percent over this time, comprised of a 0.3 percent decrease in DIY and a 10.8 percent increase in DIFM.
Staying on the distribution side of the industry, aftermarketNews readers were also very interested this week to see Counterman magazine’s annual ranking of the Top 20 Super Stores. While not a single store chain was acquired in 2006, a lot of change still took place. In fact, 2006 posted the greatest overall store count growth for the top 20 store chains in the last five years.
