POMONA, CA — The SO-CAL Speed Shop, a Southern California-based hot rod builder, has signed a master licensing agreement with Bischoff Hervey Entertainment (BHE) to develop licensing and sponsorship opportunities as well as a TV show produced by Original Productions, creators of the hit show “Monster Garage.”
Established by Alex Xydias in 1946, the first SO-CAL Speed Shop fueled the need for speed experienced by young men returning from World War II who found excitement behind the wheel of a stripped down hot rod streaking across the dry lake beds of Southern California. Today, SO-CAL is a world renowned builder and restorer of hot rods, customs, race cars, and motorcycles, having won eight awards at the prestigious Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and garnered several Land Speed Records in collaboration with General Motors.
SO-CAL President Pete Chapouris said the company took a cautious approach in selecting Eric Bischoff and Jason Hervey of BHE and Steve Boguski of Newbury Partners as partners to develop aftermarket licensing and sponsorship opportunities
“With our history, the SO-CAL Speed Shops, of which there are now eight, have become a destination for any car enthusiast,” said Chapouris. “And the opportunity to partner with performance and traditional parts manufacturers to develop unique differentiated products, programs, and promotions for those enthusiasts is very exciting”.
Represented by the William Morris Agency, BHE has several television projects in production/development including reality series for NBC, A&E, SPIKE TV as well as the SO-CAL project with Original Productions for CMT.
“To drive the brand we knew we needed a TV Show,” said Eric Bischoff. “SO-CAL was recently featured in the Discovery Channel special, The Hot Rod Build Off, but who better to partner with than the originator of this genre, Original Productions. The show, tentatively called “Rods” will air on CMT – Country Music Television-another exciting first.”
