Aftermarket Technology Corp. Appoints New CFO

Aftermarket Technology Corp.’s board of directors has appointed Todd Peters as CFO, succeeding Barry Kohn who has resigned, to pursue a new business opportunity. Peters joined ATC in March as the company’s vice president of finance. Prior to joining the company he was employed by TriMas Corp.

MEMA President Chris Bates Resigns

MEMA chairman Scott Meyer announced today that Chris Bates, president and CEO of the association since 2001, has resigned from the organization after 16 years of service. A reason for Bates’ resignation was not provided. MEMA has formed a search committee to identify and evaluate potential successors to Bates.

The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) has formally approved the formation of its first new section in 12 years — the SAE Alabama Section.

University of the Aftermarket Debuts “Fireside Chat”

The group in San Antonio was small — limited to just 25. But considering the speaker, many times more would have jumped at the chance to hear his sage words. The speaker for the inaugural University of the Aftermarket “Fireside Chat,” held April 21, was O. Temple Sloan, III, president of General Parts, Inc., the largest member of the CARQUEST distribution group. During the 45-minute session, Sloan spoke frankly about his vision of leadership to a small group of aftermarket executives.

MEMA Honors Sen. Alexander and Rep. Knollenberg with Joe Magliochetti Industry Champion Award

Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) and Rep. Joe Knollenberg (R-Mich.) were recently honored as inaugural recipients of the Joseph M. Magliochetti Industry Champion Award, presented by the Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Association (MEMA) on May 5. The award, which was created to honor the work of legislators helping to advance the automotive industry, was presented at a special dinner during the first MEMA Legislative and Public Policy Summit in Washington, D.C.

SAE to Honor Delphi’s Battenberg

The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Foundation will honor Delphi Chairman, President and CEO J.T. Battenberg III with the Manufacturing Leadership Award at a dinner at Ford Field on Wednesday, May 12. The theme of the 2004 banquet is “Manufacturing Leadership for the Future: Celebrating the Year of the Supplier.” More than 20 automotive supplier companies will be recognized for innovative achievements across multiple categories.
