SPX Service Solutions Acquires Actron Manufacturing
SPX Corp. announced today that it has acquired the assets of Cleveland, Ohio-based Actron Manufacturing Co. Actron produces automotive test equipment and instrumentation under the Actron, KAL-EQUIP and Faze brand names, among others. The company has annual revenues of approximately $35 million.

Stride Tool Names New CEO
Stride Tool, Inc., a manufacturer of specialty hand tools has named a new CEO. Ron Ortiz will replace company founder Lori Northrup, who will continue as chairman of the board of Stride Tool. Northrup, who has served as CEO since 1980, is leaving the company to focus on other business ventures with her husband.
Eaton to Purchase GKN’s German Hydraulic Connector Firm
Cleveland, Ohio-based industrial manufacturer Eaton Corp. has signed an agreement with GKN plc, a London-based global automotive and aerospace supplier, to purchase GKN’s Walterscheid Rohrverbindungstechnik GmbH business (Walterscheid) for $48 million.

Ken-Tool President Scott Meyer to Retire
After 35 years, Scott Meyer has announced he will retire from his post as president of Akron, Ohio-based Ken-Tool, a manufacturer of specialty tire changing tools and hand tools. Meyer will continue working with Ken-Tool as vice-chairman, moving away from the day-to-day operations of the business, focusing more on business growth and development including product and market development, business and marketing strategy and industry and customer relationship building.

Rep. Knollenberg Introduces Bill To Fight Counterfeit Goods
U.S. Representative Joe Knollenberg (R-Mich. 9th District) yesterday introduced legislation to strengthen the federal law used to prosecute counterfeiters whose products threaten public health, harm American manufacturers and cost jobs in the U.S. The Stop Counterfeiting in Manufactured Goods Act would require the mandatory destruction of equipment used to manufacture and package counterfeit goods. In addition, the proposed legislation addresses methods that counterfeiters have used to evade prosecution, such as the selling of patch sets or medallions that can later be attached to generic merchandise and given the appearance of a genuine product, as well as placing a counterfeit mark on goods not specifically listed in the trademark registration.
Keith Kreft Awarded ETI Founder’s Award
Keith Kreft of Cupertino, Calif., was presented the Equipment and Tool Institute (ETI) Founder’s Award at the association’s recent board meeting. The Founder’s Award honors individuals who have demonstrated outstanding commitment and support of the Institute. It is ETI’s highest honor. Kreft is the 14th recipient of the award since it was established in 1985.
