Tenneco Automotive has named James Perkins as vice president and controller and John Kunz as vice president and treasurer. Perkins joins Tenneco Automotive from GE Medical Systems Information Technology, where he most recently was director, commercial operations. Automotive Supplier ZF Lemforder Plans to Close Duncan, S.C., Plant

Automotive supplier ZF Lemforder will close one of its two Duncan, SC, plants within two years and will lay off an unspecified number of employees, officials confirmed last week. Frank Buscemi, public affairs director with ZF Group North America, said the company’s components plant would be closed by the end of 2005 because it cannot fill demand and cannot be expanded.

Dura Loss Shrinks

Dura Automotive Systems Inc., which makes automotive parking brakes and seating controls, said its fourth-quarter loss narrowed to $2.86 million, helped by currency exchange rates and acquisitions. Dura’s net loss narrowed to 15 cents a share from a loss of $90.7 million, or $4.97, a year earlier. Sales rose 8.8 percent to $627.2 million from $576.5 million, the Rochester Hills-based company said.

Automotive replacement parts distributor General Parts Inc. has announced a merger with Automotive Communications Link Inc., a provider of business management software for automotive repair professionals. Automotive Communications Link does business under the name “AutoComLink.” Through the merger, General Parts will offer AutoComLink products, which includes an Internet-based auto parts ordering application (EZ2LINK), a repair estimator system (EZ2Estimate) and a business and inventory management system for automotive repair facilities (POWERLINK).

ATP-Inc. to Produce Illustrated Parts Catalog Internally Using e-Publisher

The e-Publisher catalog management system from Vertical Development Inc. (VDI) has given replacement parts supplier ATP-Inc. the capability to generate illustrated parts lists and catalogs internally, bypassing traditional typesetting and desktop publishing services. According to VDI, the system will also allow ATP to produce literature faster and export data mapped in industry-standard formats.

MACS 2004 Convention Breaks Records

The MACS 24th annual convention and trade show, which took place in January, is reported to have broken all of MACS’ previous convention records for attendance. Registration for the event reached 2,026 this year. In addition, 41 companies participated in the society’s most generous sponsorship ever and 148 organizations exhibited in 243 booths. The MACS technical program unfolded over three days and featured 67 speakers. Five social events provided time for industry networking.
