TROY, MI — ArvinMeritor has announced the winners of its 2003 Engineer of the Year and Manufacturing Engineer of the Year awards. The awards, presented at ceremonies on Feb. 5, in Detroit, Mich., recognize those engineers or scientists who have made significant and innovative technological contributions to ArvinMeritor, its customers and the automobile industry.

Gail Guynn, Ph.D., P.E., senior principal engineer at the ArvinMeritor Light Vehicle Systems (LVS) business group’s Air and Emissions Technology Test Center in Columbus, Ind., has been named ArvinMeritor’s 2003 Engineer of the Year for her scientific contributions in simulation technology and physical durability testing. Guynn joined the organization in 1998, and holds a doctorate in mechanics and materials, as well as a master of science degree in mechanical engineering from Texas A&M University. She also holds a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.

Peter Doerries, a manager of costing and new products at ArvinMeritor LVS’ Roof facility in Detroit, Mich., has been named this year’s Manufacturing Engineer of the Year. He is recognized for his contributions that led to significant floor space and work-in-process reduction, throughput improvement and enhanced operating efficiencies at the facility. Doerries joined the organization in 1990, and holds an associate’s degree in Industrialization from the College for Technical Training and an electrical engineering degree from Vocational College Braunschweig. Both schools are in Germany.

“This year’s award winners exemplify the kind of commitment and fresh thinking that help us respond more quickly to the changing technical needs of our customers,” said John Grace, ArvinMeritor vice president of engineering and technology. “Providing customers with technologically advanced solutions not only helps them be more competitive, but also significantly helps solidify ArvinMeritor’s position as a leading innovator in the automotive supplier industry.”
