Timken Board Nominates NAM President Jerry Jasinowski; Announces Two Retirements

Jerry Jasinowski, president of the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM), has been nominated for membership on the Timken board of directors. He will stand for election at the annual shareholders’ meeting on April 20. Additionally, two current board members have announced their retirements.

Six veteran professionals were honored with the Mobile A/C Industry Pioneer Award during the MACS 24th annual convention and trade show, held last month.

MACS Installs 2004 Board and Officers

New officers and board members were sworn in during the MACS annual membership meeting Jan. 24. Serving as officers in 2004 are: Chairman — Michael Deese, Santech Industries, Ft. Worth, Texas; Vice Chairman — Gus Swensen, Cool Car Auto Air, Columbus, Ga.; Treasurer — Andy Fiffick, Rad-Air Complete Car Care in Garfield Heights, Ohio; and Secretary — Kevin Burton, Four Seasons, Lewisville, Texas.

Dana Names GM Europe Exec Michael Burns CEO and President, Acting President Bill Carroll to Retire

Dana Corp.’s board of directors has named Michael Burns CEO, president and a director of the company, succeeding the late Joe Magliochetti, who passed away Sept. 22, 2003. Burns, who has been president of General Motors Europe since 1998, will officially take over on March 1. Bill Carroll, who has served as acting president and COO since September, will continue in these positions until March 1, at which time he will retire from the company.

American Axle & Manufacturing Elects New Board Members

American Axle & Manufacturing Holdings (AAM) has appointed two new members to its board of directors: Dr. Henry Yang, chancellor at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and Thomas Martin, a retired DaimlerChrysler financial executive.

Survey Says Suppliers Should Pay More Attention to Their Brands

Suppliers must do a better job of building and utilizing their brand names, according to new research by SupplierBusiness.com. Companies make a mistake when they submerge their identities or consolidate brand portfolios out of existence, say executives who were surveyed. By having a clear brand strategy they say suppliers can capitalize on their good name and good will. The cost of developing a brand strategy is low and the risk is small. A strong brand means a company is taken more seriously in the bidding process and can open doors when trying to win new business with an OEM it has no relationship with.

Commemorative Issue of FOCUS Marks MEMA’s 100th Anniversary

MEMA is teaming with Babcox Publications to publish a special commemorative issue of its quarterly magazine, Focus, in June 2004 to mark the association’s 100th anniversary. This special edition will be a collector’s item, produced in “coffee-table” quality. The magazine will commemorate the past 100 years of contributions that suppliers and individuals have made to the original equipment, aftermarket and heavy duty industries, a historic timeline and many historic photos from MEMA and its member companies.

Dana’s Terry Shively to be Featured on the C.A.R. Show

Terry Shively, vice president marketing and public relations for the Dana Automotive Aftermarket Group, will be featured on the C.A.R. Show radio program on Saturday, Feb. 7. The broadcast will air between 9 – 11 a.m. EST. During the broadcast, Shively will discuss the importance of preventative vehicle maintenance and the role that the Dana Automotive Aftermarket Group has played in supporting the Car Care Council’s “Be Car Care Aware” campaign. He will also discuss the need for the industry to continue to come together to capture a share of the $62 billion in unperformed vehicle maintenance.

Delphi Achieves Record $3.2 Billion in Commercial Vehicle Business Bookings in ’03

Delphi achieved a record $3.2 billion in new commercial vehicle business bookings during 2003, according to company officials. Much of the new business is with Delphi’s engine management systems, along with audio, safety, climate control and electrical/electronic distribution systems, according to Maggart. While every major region saw a business increase during the year, a majority of the growth came from Asia-Pacific and Europe.
