Northwood University to Honor Seven Aftermarket Professionals

Northwood University will honor seven automotive aftermarket leaders with its annual Automotive Aftermarket Education Award on Tuesday, Oct. 30 at the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas. The awards will be presented during a luncheon at the annual Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo Show (AAPEX). Northwood’s Automotive Aftermarket Education Award recognizes leaders for their contributions to the educational process in the automotive aftermarket field. The award was created to insure that these individuals receive national recognition for their efforts to improve education inside and outside the industry.

Twenty-three Plants are Targeted in Visteon Cost-Cutting Plan

Visteon Corp., the nation’s second-largest automotive parts supplier, announced a cost-cutting plan Wednesday that seeks to close, sell or revamp 23 plants hurting the company financially. The Van Buren Township-based parts maker identified only three of those plants — in Buffalo, NY, Puerto Rico and Mexico — that it intends to close this year.

About 5,000 salaried workers at Visteon Corp. in North America are to find out if they will be leased to a temporary, new company called Automotive Components Holdings LLC, which will be managed by Ford Motor Co. and contain 23 former Visteon facilities.

Visteon Drops Plan to Sell a Factory to Plastech

Visteon Corp., the second-biggest U.S. maker of auto parts, dropped its plan to sell a Chicago factory to Plastech Engineered Products Inc. because the companies couldn’t agree on terms, a Visteon spokesman said. Visteon, based in Van Buren Township, Mich., announced the sale in August as a way to cut costs and help end annual losses after being spun off from Ford in 2000.
