PHILADELPHIA — Pep Boys has announced it is participating in the Motorist Assurance Program’s (MAP) Brake Safety Awareness Week, taking place Aug. 2028, by offering free brake system inspections for the entire month of August at Pep Boys locations across the nation.
Throughout the month, Pep Boys also will have informational brake safety brochures and do-it-yourself guides available for download at www.pepboys.com for consumers without a Pep Boys close by.
The Automotive Maintenance and Repair Association (AMRA), in conjunction with the Pep Boys, recommends assessing the brake system for the following maintenance indicators, each of which could signify possible problems:
A brake system warning lamp that stays illuminated
Scraping or grinding noises coming from the brakes
A soft or spongy feeling when the pedal is depressed
A vehicle that pulls to one side when the brakes are applied
Low brake fluid level in the master cylinder
A brake fluid test indicating a copper content of 200 ppm or greater
“Taking care of your brakes is a critical part of keeping your vehicle safe,” said Jerry Martinelli, director of service at Pep Boys. “As we head into the fall season, now is an ideal time to seek a thorough brake inspection.”
