NAPA Names Robert Susor as President

Robert Susor will succeed Steve Handschuh as NAPA president. The decision was made following the announcement that Handschuh would be leaving NAPA to take a position as senior vice president of AZ Commercial, AutoZone’s wholesale division. Susor most recently was executive vice president of NAPA member Genuine Parts Co.

R. L. Polk Canada Announces Management Changes

Kendra Rawls has been appointed vice president, R. L. Polk & Co. and general manager, R. L. Polk Canada, Inc. In this position, Rawls is responsible for managing Polk’s activities in Canada including vehicle registration reporting, automotive intelligence and analysis and marketing solutions. Rawls replaces Bill Murray who has been named vice president of international development at Polk’s international headquarters in Southfield, Mich. Murray is now responsible for overseeing operations in Brazil, Canada and Mexico plus the development of product offerings in Polk’s emerging markets.

AutoZone Enhances Top Management Team, NAPA’s Steve Handschuh Named Senior VP

AutoZone (AZ) has announced new responsibilities and additions to the company’s senior management team. Steve Handschuh, current president of NAPA Auto Parts, has been named senior vice president of AZ commercial. Handschuh spent the last seventeen years at NAPA building its wholesale business. Mike Longo, currently senior vice president of store operations for AZ commercial and ALLDATA, has been named senior vice president for growth initiatives. Additionally, Brad Bacon, vice president and general manager of store operations, will become senior vice president of store operations.

ArvinMeritor’s Yost to Discuss Heavy Duty Supplier Industry Trends at Heavy Duty Dialogue

Larry Yost, chairman and CEO of ArvinMeritor will discuss the challenges facing the heavy duty supplier industry at Heavy Duty Dialogue 2004, slated for Feb. 9 and 10. The event will take place at the Atlanta Airport Hilton and Towers, Atlanta Hartsfield International Airport, Atlanta, Ga. This is 13th in the biennial series presented by the Heavy Duty Manufacturers Association (HDMA).

Automotive Products is Sold

German brake and clutch manufacturer FTE Automotive GmbH said Monday it bought Auburn Hills, Mich., auto clutch systems maker Automotive Products Inc. for an undisclosed price. The deal makes Ebern, Germany-based FTE a major player in clutch products with worldwide sales of $462 million.

TIA Consolidates, Maryland Office Becomes New HQ

The Tire Industry Association (TIA) will consolidate all of its offices in Bowie, Md., as of Feb. 1. TIA’s operations in Kentucky will be relocated and the building will be put up for sale. TIA said this decision comes after months of in-depth analysis into the cost-effectiveness of operating two offices in different states. Two members of the Louisville staff, Senior Vice President of Education and Technical Services Kevin Rohlwing and Director of Training Chris Marnett, will be moving to the Maryland office.

Hayes Lemmerz Announces Agreement with Strick

Hayes Lemmerz International’s commercial highway division has reached a new supply agreement with Strick Corp. Hayes Lemmerz will supply 100 percent of all standard, non-specified, wheel end components for Strick in 2004 and 2005. This includes CentruMount steel wheels, cast hub and drums and Centrifuse brake drums.

Timken to Sponsor ‘Engineer of the Year’ Award

Timken has announced it will sponsor the Design News “Engineer of the Year” award at the National Design Engineering Show. The award, voted on by readers of Design News, will be presented at a banquet in February at McCormick Place in Chicago. Established in 1987, the Engineer of the Year award recognizes the individuals behind significant developments in the field of engineering. It is the top honor presented at the show, which is part of National Manufacturing Week from Feb. 23-26, 2004. Design News is a trade magazine covering mechanical and electromechanical design engineering.

Richard Nawrocki Elected to Intermet Board of Directors

Intermet has added Richard Nawrocki to its board of directors. Nawrocki is president, CEO and board member of CMI-Management Services, a Southfield, Mich.-based holding company that manages a portfolio of diversified investments, corporations and subsidiaries, including metal-forming companies Tech Cast and CMI-Schneible.
