Miller: Delphi Is Symptom of U.S. Problems
Delphi Corp.’s bankruptcy “is a metaphor for nearly every economic and social issue gripping American manufacturing,” says CEO Steve Miller. Miller told reporters here late last month that Delphi’s problems symbolize more than the immediate financial troubles of U.S. automotive suppliers.
PPG Shows Future Color Trends
Only a handful of people know what new vehicles will look like in 2009. But automotive paint supplier PPG Industries Inc. already has a good idea what colors those vehicles will be. Blue will get more popular in the next four years as more dramatic shades are introduced, such as watery blue-greens and smoky lilacs. Yellows and oranges will get richer and warmer. Reds will glow in deep shades of cranberry and wine, and dark brown will make a comeback.
Bosch Considers Delphi Move
Robert Bosch Corp. is considering buying parts of its bankrupt US rival Delphi. The announcement was made at the Tokyo Motor Show by Bosch chairman Bernd Bohr.

Visteon Spin-Off Firm Stirs Interest
About 65 different companies have already expressed interest in buying some of the automotive parts plants and operations that Visteon Corp. officially spun-off Friday into a temporary new holding company, the chief executive in charge of the new firm says. The goal of Automotive Components Holdings LLC, which is managed by Ford Motor Co., is to sell off or close all of the 23 former Visteon facilities it now owns. The holding company, called ACH, will lease about 18,000 hourly workers from Ford and 5,000 salaried workers from Visteon, and most of its $7 billion in sales comes from contracts with Ford.
Delphi Seeks $6 Billion in Help From GM
Delphi Corp. has asked General Motors Corp. for an aid package worth $6 billion to help avoid a bankruptcy filing, people familiar with the situation said. Delphi aims to use the cash from GM to reduce expenses by offering some longtime workers bonuses to retire, quit or accept lower pay.
