Vic Edelbrock, Jr. to Receive Robert E. Petersen Lifetime Achievement Award

Hotrod & Restoration (HHR) magazine and Robert Petersen have announced Vic Edelbrock, Jr. as the fourth recipient of the Robert E. Petersen Lifetime Achievement Award. Launched in 2002 at the HRR show, the inaugural Robert E. Petersen Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to NHRA founder Wally Parks. The award was presented to Carroll Shelby in 2003 and George Barris in 2004. Petersen selects the annual recipient based upon the candidate’s contributions to the evolution and prosperity of specialized automobiles. The trophy, a bronze sculpture by automotive artist Steve Posson, aptly titled “Running at the Lakes,” is on display at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles.

Ray Motes Recognized for Lifetime Achievement in Drag Racing

CARQUEST Named Title Sponsor of 45th Annual Winternationals at Pomona Raceway

CARQUEST Auto Parts has signed a multi-year agreement to become the title sponsor of the 45th annual Winternationals in Pomona, Calif. The agreement begins in 2005. It is the first of three NHRA event sponsorships for CARQUEST Auto Parts, which will also headline the CARQUEST Auto Parts Nationals at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Ill., June 9-12, as well as the CARQUEST Auto Parts Nationals at Pacific Raceways in Seattle, July 22-24.

Motorsports Leaders to Share the Stage at SAE Motorsports Engineering Conference and Expo

Tony George, president and CEO of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Indy Racing League, will be one of five worldwide motorsports leaders featured on a business panel during the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Motorsports Engineering Conference and Exhibition on Nov. 30 at the Hyatt Regency hotel in Dearborn, Mich. Joining George will be FIA President Max Mosley, NASCAR President Mike Helton, NHRA President Tom Compton and SCCA President Steve Johnson. It is believed this is the first time that the heads of these leading sanctioning bodies will appear together in a panel discussion.
