INDIANAPOLIS — Tony George, president and CEO of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Indy Racing League, will be one of five worldwide motorsports leaders featured on a business panel during the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Motorsports Engineering Conference and Exhibition on Nov. 30 at the Hyatt Regency hotel in Dearborn, Mich.
Joining George will be FIA President Max Mosley, NASCAR President Mike Helton, NHRA President Tom Compton and SCCA President Steve Johnson. It is believed this is the first time that the heads of these leading sanctioning bodies will appear together in a panel discussion.
The FIA is the governing body of Formula One, which competes annually at IMS in the U.S. Grand Prix, while NASCAR is the sanctioning body of the annual Brickyard 400 NEXTEL Cup Series race at IMS.
The panel members will discuss their shared challenges of cost containment, safety, competitive events with full fields that will please existing fans and attract new fans at tracks and on television, and providing value for new and existing sponsors.
Racer magazine President Paul Pfanner will serve as the moderator, while recently retired General Motors top racing executive Herb Fishel is the organizer of the panel.
The panel discussion is part of the SAE Engineering Conference and Exhibition on Nov. 30-Dec. 2. Mosley, who heads the worldwide governing body of motorsport, will be the keynote speaker of the conference.
