Eleven automotive suppliers have won 2005 Automotive News PACE Awards for innovation. Two automotive manufacturers were also honored with the first-ever Automotive News PACE Innovative OEM Collaborator Awards during the program.

Goodyear and Siemens Unveil New Tire Information System

Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. and Siemens VDO Automotive have teamed up to create a new tire information system called “Tire IQ.” A fully functional Tire IQ prototype system was featured on the Ford Shelby GR-1, a high-performance concept coupe, unveiled at the 2005 North American International Auto Show held in Detroit.

BorgWarner Buys Majority Stake in Beru AG; William Cline to Lead Acquisition Team

In a deal first announced in November 2004, BorgWarner has completed the purchase of approximately 62 percent of the outstanding shares of German-based Beru AG from its major shareholders, The Carlyle Group and a group of family shareholders. The sale, made as a cash transaction, totaled approximately $490 million. BorgWarner has tapped William (Skip) Cline to lead the BorgWarner task force for the Beru acquisition and provide coordination between the two companies. He has been named vice president, acquisition coordination and special projects.

Car Care Council Women’s Board Announces Winners of the Automotive Communications Awards

The Car Care Council Women’s Board (WB) has announced the winners of the new Automotive Communications Awards (ACA). The awards were presented during the Women’s Board reception on Tuesday, Nov. 2 in Las Vegas, during AAPEX. The Automotive Communications Awards recognize companies/agencies that provide automotive information through outstanding advertising, marketing and PR efforts. The business-to-consumer awards have 14 categories for entry targeted to women, including car care clinics and direct mail piece or campaign/newsletter. The business-to-business awards consist of 21 categories with such options as logo design and special promotions and promotional events/trade show.

MACS 25th Anniversary Convention Gets Support from Record Number of Sponsors

“NOW IS THE TIME!” — the 25th Anniversary Convention and Trade Show of the Mobile Air Conditioning Society (MACS) Worldwide is getting support from a record number of corporate sponsors. Forty sponsors have signed up for the show, which will take place February 1-3, 2005 at the Las Vegas Hilton.

2005 Automotive News Pace Award Finalists Named

More than 30 automotive suppliers have been named finalists in the 11th annual Automotive News PACE Award competition. Open to suppliers that contribute products, processes, materials or services directly to the manufacture of cars or trucks, the PACE (Premier Automotive Suppliers’ Contribution to Excellence) Award is presented by Automotive News, Capgemini and Transportation Research Center Inc. (TRC Inc.). Judges selected 23 finalists and 10 honorable mention awardees based on extensive written responses to the 2005 PACE Award application. Finalists will now host site visits by industry, academic and business leaders to select the winners, which will be announced in April during the Society of Automotive Engineers conference in Detroit. Judges will evaluate each company’s innovation as well as its management team.

Goodyear Teams Up with Wal-Mart on RFID Supply Chain Technology

As part of its effort to stake out a leadership position in Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) applications, Goodyear Tire & Rubber has teamed up with Wal-Mart in a massive retail implementation of this new technology. In June 2003, Wal-Mart Stores announced that its 100 largest suppliers would be required to begin using RFID tags on every case and pallet of product shipped to the retailer’s Dallas region stores by 2005. Approximately 25 other suppliers, including Goodyear, volunteered to also participate in this effort.
