Midas Reports Third Quarter Net Earnings of $3 Million

Midas has reported net earnings of $3 million, or 21 cents per diluted share, for the third quarter ended Sept. 29, compared to net earnings of $2.4 million, or 16 cents per diluted share, in the prior year. Third quarter results in both years included special items of 2 cents per share, primarily consisting of business transformation charges related to the continuing shop re-imaging program.

Northwood University to Honor Seven Aftermarket Professionals

Northwood University will honor seven automotive aftermarket leaders with its annual Automotive Aftermarket Education Award on Tuesday, Oct. 30 at the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas. The awards will be presented during a luncheon at the annual Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo Show (AAPEX). Northwood’s Automotive Aftermarket Education Award recognizes leaders for their contributions to the educational process in the automotive aftermarket field. The award was created to insure that these individuals receive national recognition for their efforts to improve education inside and outside the industry.

Executive Interview with Steve Seabourne, President of AIM

Steve Seabourne is president and CEO of AIM. Seabourne has more than 30 years of experience with AIM. For the past five years, he has had overall responsibility for the company as president. Seabourne has hands-on manufacturing expertise with active participation in all aspects of the business from teardown and assembly to purchasing, marketing, cataloging and sales. He is a double major graduate of the University of California at Davis with a B.S. in biological sciences and a B.A. in economics. In this week’s Executive Interview, Seabourne brings us up to speed on the latest initiatives at AIM, as the company celebrates its 40th anniversary.

UAW, GM Reach Deal

The United Auto Workers and General Motors Corp. agreed today to a tentative contract that ends a two-day national strike — the first against the automaker in 37 years — and puts responsibility for retirees’ health care into the union’s hands. The deal creates a GM-funded, UAW-run trust to administer retiree health care.

Dana Gets New Offer for Bankruptcy Exit

Appaloosa Management, the largest shareholder in Dana Corp., has made an offer to finance the auto-parts company’s exit from bankruptcy, competing with a bid from Centerbridge Capital Partners. The proposal from Appaloosa, a private equity firm based in Chatham, NJ, will be reviewed this week by Dana’s creditors committee, Chuck Hartlage, a spokesman for the maker of automotive frames and axles, said Friday.

AAIA to Offer More Education at AAPEX

In response to requests from members for more educational opportunities, the Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association (AAIA) is hosting a variety of value-added seminars at this year’s Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo (AAPEX). AAPEX 2007 is scheduled for Oct. 30-Nov. 1 at the Sands Expo Center in Las Vegas.
