As is often the case, aftermarketNews (AMN) readers tend to pay close attention to personnel news, so it’s no surprise that the most highly read news item this week was Pep Boys’ appointment of two members to its senior leadership team. The company appointed Michael Odell as its new executive vice president and chief operating officer, and Scott Webb as its new senior vice president, Merchandising and Marketing. Both Odell and Webb are expected to start their employment with Pep Boys this month.
With the myriad of recent p rod uct recalls from China , it’s no wonder AMN readers took an interest in the announcement of the U.S. and China signing a recall pact for defective auto parts. NHTSA and the Chinese government signed an agreement Sept. 12 that will help speed the recall of defective auto parts. The agreement between U.S. and Chinese regulators comes on the heels of the recall of 255,000 defective Chinese-made tires — after two deaths and one injury in accidents involving the tires — and 305,000 engine fuses that could be linked to electrical fires.
A second personnel announcement caught the attention of AMN readers this week. Penray announced the appointment of Matt Zahradka as the Eastern regional sales manager for the company’s Automotive Division. In this position, Zahradka is responsible for regional and private-label sales assignments. Prior to his position with Penray, Zahradka held a private-label sales position with Airosol Co.
Coming in at number four of the most highly read AMN news items this week was the announcement of ArvinMeritor, Inc. consolidating its three North American ride control facilities into one. The consolidation includes the closure of its Toronto, Ontario, original equipment shock absorber operation and its Chickasha, OK, packaging and distribution center. The 700-person closure is part of a previously announced restructuring plan affecting 2,800 employees from 13 North American and European plants.
And finally, news of the ‘Aftermarket Overview’ to be held in Detroit rounds out the top five news stories this week on AMN.
