Bridgestone, Michelin Criticize F1 Single-Source Strategy

Bridgestone Corp. and Michelin are speaking out against a plan to eliminate one of them from Formula One auto racing in 2006 to cut teams’ costs and reduce the impact of tire choice on racing. The 10 teams want a single tire supplier to reduce the more than $300 million a year they spend for testing and the more than $40 million a year required to operate a team, according to Max Mosley, president of Formula One’s ruling body.

Dana Opens New Automotive Systems Technology Center

Today, Dana Corp. unveiled a new Automotive Systems Group Technology Center, located near Toledo, Ohio. The nearly 200,000 square-foot facility features advanced component and system engineering, along with housing testing and purchasing experts. In addition to supporting research and development activities across North America, the new center augments Dana’s technical centers in the Asia-Pacific, South American and European markets, according to Dana CEO and President Michael Burns.

Kumho Tire has issued a notice that the company has temporarily suspended sales of its ECSTA V710 Competition Tire due to inconsistencies that have come up in indoor testing. Test results indicated problems relating to tread splice and tread area durability. An investigation into the cause of the inconsistencies has taken place and modifications to the product and production methods have been made, said the company.
