Parts Plus Convention Hosts Members in ‘The Big Easy’; Merged Group Typifies Changing Landscape in Distribution

Barely two weeks after the pre-Lenten Mardi Gras festivities had quieted here in the Crescent City, Memphis-based program group Parts Plus brought its own Fat Tuesday atmosphere to its national convention, held last week in New Orleans. This year’s convention, held February 24-27, marked a number of milestones for the group, including the addition of seven new WD members and record convention attendance among both members and vendors. The most noteworthy announcement of the convention, however, was the group’s first live acknowledgement of its recent merger with fellow program group Independent Auto Parts of America (IAPA), formerly based in Cartersville, Ga.

IAPA and Parts Plus Merge to Form Automotive Distribution Network

Two of the top groups in the automotive aftermarket, Parts Plus and Independent Auto Parts of America (IAPA), have merged to form the Automotive Distribution Network (ADN). The effective date of this merger is Jan. 1. The decision was approved unanimously by Parts Plus’ 36-members and IAPA’s 16-members, combining the strength and stability of the two groups. The Network consists of 51 members, 242 warehouse distributor locations and more than $2 billion in annual sales.

Federal-Mogul to Give Away Classic Chevrolet El Camino SS Through 2005 Training Promo

The Federal-Mogul Technical Education Center (TEC) will give away a 1966 Chevrolet El Camino SS with a “numbers-matching” engine and rare package of factory options to an engine rebuilder, professional technician or parts counterperson through its 2005 Federal-Mogul Training Excellence Sweepstakes. Any qualified aftermarket professional may enter the sweepstakes by enrolling in a 2005 TEC training workshop or field clinic, or by contacting TEC for course information. There is no entry fee or enrollment requirement. The Training Excellence Sweepstakes drawing will be held in mid-December 2005.

Consumer Auto Parts Joins IAPA

Independent Auto Parts of America (IAPA) recently announced that Milford, Mass.-based Consumer Auto Parts, has joined the group as its newest member. Established in 1973, Consumer Auto Parts serves more than 3,000 installers from its 22 company owned stores located in Massachusetts and Southern Vermont. The company, led by President Merrill Cohen, has a mix of customers that is 50/50 installer/retail. Annual consumer sales for the last fiscal year were $35 million.
