MEMA to Honor Rep. Mike Rogers as ‘Industry Champion’

The Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Association (MEMA) has selected Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Mich.) as the 2005 recipient of the “Joseph M. Magliochetti Industry Champion” award. Rogers will be honored during an award presentation on Thursday, June 9, at the MEMA Legislative Summit in Washington, D.C. MEMA established the Industry Champion award in 2004 in the memory of Joseph M. Magliochetti, who served as the chairman and CEO of Dana Corp. until his death in 2003. The award celebrates and recognizes those who have worked diligently on behalf of automotive parts manufacturers in the United States. Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) and Rep. Joe Knollenberg (R-Mich.) were the first recipients.

AAIA Legislative Summit Drives Home the Message

With record numbers and spirited optimism, representatives from the aftermarket industry assembled in Washington, D.C., for the Aftermarket Legislative Summit this past Tuesday and Wednesday. More than 250 attendees representing 37 states made the journey to the lobbying rally to discuss with members of Congress the issues that affect the aftermarket.

Buyer Beware: Learn More About the Dangers of Counterfeit Auto Parts

Until the 1980s, counterfeiting was thought of as a victimless crime, conjuring up images of knock-off brand-name watches and handbags. Today, however, counterfeiting is big business, accounting for five to eight percent of all goods sold worldwide. In terms of criminal activity, counterfeiting is among the most lucrative crimes today, its impact on the global economy estimated at $350 billion to $500 billion a year. The Federal Bureau of Investigation has called counterfeiting “the crime of the 21st century.” The Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Association and its Brand Protection Council, in conjunction with Babcox Publications, have produced a supplemental publication on counterfeiting in the motor vehicle industry. The publication will serve as a resource guide for warehouse distributors, parts stores, retailers and technicians in the automotive aftermarket, as well as for parts distributors, fleet equipment and maintenance managers, and service providers in the heavy-duty market.
