WASHINGTON — The congressional champion in the House of Representatives for the Right to Repair Act, Congressman Joe Barton (R-Texas), and the chief sponsor of the “The Stop Counterfeiting in Manufactured Goods Act,” Congressman Joe Knollenberg (R-Mich.), will be the featured speakers during the opening session of the Aftermarket Legislative Summit next week.
Barton serves as the chairman of the Energy and Commerce Committee which has jurisdiction over a broad array of aftermarket critical issues, including consumer protection, air quality and environmental health, telecommunications and interstate and foreign commerce. He will be discussing his plans to reintroduce the Motor Vehicle Owners’ Right to Repair Act.
In addition, Knollenberg will be addressing another one of the industry’s priority issues — counterfeit automotive aftermarket parts. His bill would strengthen the criminal penalties for auto parts counterfeiting. Knollenberg serves as the chair of the Appropriations Transportation Subcommittee.
Following the opening session, more than 200 aftermarket leaders will take the aftermarket message on four key issues to Capitol Hill in meetings with their legislators.
