OBITUARY: James E. Lyle, Founder And Former President of International Brake Industries Inc.

He founded International Brake Industries in 1967 and served as president until his retirement in 1999. He also served the industry as chairman of Brake System Parts Manufacturing Council in 1984 and also served on the board.

LIMA, Ohio – James E. Lyle, 76, passed away at his home on Wednesday, June 4, 2014, after a long battle with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) surrounded by the love of his family.
 
Jim was born February 8, 1938 in Gross Pointe Farms, Mich., to the late Agnes Mary (Fox) Lyle and Charles Keith Lyle. He is a graduate of St. Gerard’s High School and served in the United States Marine Corps Reserve.
 
He was preceded in death by his sister, Rosemary (Ralph) Sroufe, brother, John “Jack” (Betty) Lyle, and nephew, Daniel Lyle.
 
Jim married his high school sweetheart, Jeanne (Kriegel) Lyle who survives. Along with his wife, he is survived by three daughters: Julie Lyle of Columbus, Jan (Dr. Tim) Chase of Marion, and Jill (Marty) Garlock of Lima; eight grandchildren: Sara (Chris) Barrett, Teresa (Brandon) Autrey, Jennifer Smith, Taylor Chase, Matt Chase, Amber Garlock, J.J. Garlock, Mitchell Garlock; one great grandson Preston Barrett; brother-in-law David (Shirley) Kriegel of Lima; sister-in-law Chris (Bob) Riley of Fort Jennings; and numerous nieces and nephews.
 
Jim was elected as 2nd Ward Councilman in 1965 and to this day is the youngest councilman to serve Lima. He founded International Brake Industries in 1967 and served as president until his retirement in 1999. He also served the industry as chairman of Brake System Parts Manufacturing Council in 1984 and also served on the board. Jim was a past president of Shawnee Country Club and served as a board member for numerous years. He was also a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church and St. Columbkille Catholic Church, Ft. Myers, Fla., Knights of Columbus and Life Member B.P.O.E. #54. Jim had a passion for life and thirst for knowledge. He was a very devoted and avid Cleveland Indians baseball fanatic.
 
Friends and family may call Sunday, June 8, 2014 from 2 to 4:00 p.m. and 6 to 8:00 p.m. followed by a parish wake service.
 
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday June 9, 2014, at 11 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Rev. Stephen Blum and Rev. David Ross will officiate. Graveside military honors will be conducted by the VFW Post 1275.
 
In an effort to slow the progression of IPF, Jim participated in InterMune’s Clinical trial at the Cleveland Clinic for eight years. Although progress has been made and the clinical drug Pirfenidone is close to FDA approval, larger strides need to be made.
