NABC Recycled Rides Program Announces Refurbished Ride Recipient

Texas Veteran, Widow Receives Recycled Ride

LaFonda Roberson, a veteran from Frisco, Texas, received a 2016 Hyundai Accent on Oct. 6.

Thanks to the National Auto Body Council Recycled Rides program, along with car donor Allstate and repair partner Texas Collision Centers, a deserving Frisco, Texas, female veteran experienced a life-changing event on Friday, Oct. 6: the presentation of a vehicle to provide her independence and the ability to work and take care of her family.

The presentation was held as part of the Dallas Growth Conference at Dallas Frisco Hotel and Convention Center.  The deserving recipient was selected by Soldiers’ Angels, according to the National Auto Body Council.

LaFonda Roberson, who received a 2016 Hyundai Accent, is a U.S. Army veteran who lost her husband to leukemia in 2011 and her son was diagnosed with kidney cancer in 2005 and leukemia in 2019. In 2017, this veteran was admitted into the hospital for a condition which resulted in her having to have yearly blood transfusions and unable to work. A vehicle would mean she would no longer have to walk or try to borrow a vehicle to get to appointments and she could be readily available if her son has an emergency issue that requires immediate help. Due to knee problems, Roberson is unable to walk long distances, and the gift of reliable transportation will truly be a blessing for her.

“I am overwhelmed with joy. I can’t tell everyone thank you enough on behalf of myself and my children,” said Roberson.

“Texas Collision Centers is so very grateful to have been chosen as the repair partner to refurbish this vehicle for the benefit of such a worthy veteran recipient in Ms. Roberson. Giving back to the communities we serve is engrained in our culture and an important part of our identity as an organization,” said Shyllo Michaelis, chief strategy officer, Texas Collision Centers.

Since the inception of the NABC Recycled Rides program in 2007, members of the National Auto Body Council have donated more than 3,200 vehicles valued at some $46 million, according to the National Auto Body Council.

Additional partners in the NABC Recycled Rides presentation included Enterprise, Cars for Charity, Advanced Remarketing Services, INA Towing, and Complete Collision Solutions.
