Mitchell 1 Recognizes TMC SuperTech Grand Champion

Doug Nickles, a FedEx freight technician, received a one-year subscription to Mitchell 1's TruckSeries program.

Mitchell 1 awarded TMCSuperTech 2023 Grand Champion, Doug Nickles, a FedEx freight technician from East Moline, Illinois, a one-year subscription to its TruckSeries repair information software program. With this award, Nickles will have access to all of Mitchell 1’s online maintenance and repair information for Class 4-8 trucks, the company said.

It was the first time that Nickles earned the Grand Champion title at the TMCSuperTech 2023 National Technician Skills Competition, Sept. 18, 2023, at the Huntington Convention Center in Cleveland, Ohio. Four other FedEx Freight techs also finished in the Top 5 of the Heavy Duty track. Wesley Salley of Round Rock, Texas, placed second and Kelby Bentley, the 2019 Grand Champion, placed third.

Mitchell 1 said it was an original sponsor and supporter of the TMCSuperTech National Technician Skills Competitions. They established the testing protocol for and annually administer the Service Information Skills Station, utilizing TruckSeries to assess competitors’ ability to use web-based programs to diagnose and fix vehicles properly. This year’s winner of the Service Information Station competition was Lucas Coyle from Travel Centers of America.
Mitchell 1 testing is also used at individual state SuperTech competitions and TMCFutureTech events, the company said.

“TMCSuperTech is an important part of our annual calendar, and we look forward to participating and meeting the competitors every year,” said Kristy LaPage, director of Mitchell 1’s commercial vehicle group. “All the competitors participating in this year’s event deserve industry recognition for building the knowledge base necessary to keep commercial vehicles on the road and operating efficiently. They really are an essential component to all of our success. We are honored to acknowledge these highly skilled individuals.”

HDA Truck Pride announced it enhanced its footprint in Idaho with the addition of Diesel Depot, a family-owned business led by Wally Klassen and his three sons.

Their story began in Aberdeen, Idaho, in 2000 with the renovation of a vacant car dealership to accommodate trucks. By 2007, they had outgrown the building. The brothers took over the business and built a new state-of-the-art facility. Their remarkable growth created the need, yet again, for more room and, by 2020, they broke ground on an expansion project, nearly doubling the size of their facility, HDA Truck Pride said.
