Mitchell 1 Names Eric L. Babcock 2006 Educator of the Year

Eric L. Babcock, an automotive technician and instructor from New Orleans, LA, was named Educator of the Year at the North American Council of Automotive Teachers (NACAT) 2006 Conference held recently in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Each year, Mitchell 1 recognizes one of the nation’s top teachers for excellence in automotive repair instruction.

POWAY, CA — Eric L. Babcock, an automotive technician and instructor from New Orleans, LA, was named Educator of the Year at the North American Council of Automotive Teachers (NACAT) 2006 Conference held recently in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Each year, Mitchell 1 recognizes one of the nation’s top teachers for excellence in automotive repair instruction.

During the awards ceremony, Babcock was presented with a check for $500 along with a recognition certificate, courtesy of Mitchell 1. In addition, the Delgado Community College was given a one-year extended subscription to Mitchell 1 OnDemand5 Repair software, the industry’s premiere product in providing an integrated approach to total repair shop productivity.

“Mitchell 1 is proud to join with NACAT for another year to honor those who have demonstrated a commitment to educational excellence in the automotive repair industry,” said Karen Wagner, marketing manager for Mitchell 1. “We would like to extend our sincerest congratulations to Mr. Babcock for achieving such a prestigious award.”

Babcock is ASE-certified as a master automobile technician and master diesel technician, as well as certified in Advanced Engine Performance (L1) and Advanced Diesel Performance (L2). He has been employed by Delgado Community College in New Orleans since August of 1981; first as an automotive and diesel instructor through 1999, and later as the department coordinator thorough 2004. Currently, Babcock is a teacher in the Ford Motor Co. ASSET Program.

His educational credentials include an associate degree in automotive technology from the Fort Scott Community College in Fort Scott, KS., and a bachelor’s degree in industrial technology – automotive from Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, KS.

Selection criteria for the Educator of the Year award requires that a master automotive technician excel on all ASE automotive tests, including A1 – A8 (Engine Repair, Automatic Transmission/Transaxle, Manual Drive Train and Axles, Suspension and Steering, Brakes, Electrical/Electronic Systems, Heating and Air Conditioning, Engine Performance) and the L1 (Advanced Engine Performance Exam).
