Midtronics Develops Custom Products for International Truck and Engine

WILLOWBROOK, IL — Midtronics has announced the release of the EXP-1000 HD Battery and Electrical System Analyzer and the PSC-550 CC Power Supply and Battery Charger, two custom tools developed for International Truck and Engine Corp. The products are being distributed to more than 600 of International’s Truck and IC Bus service locations.

"The opportunity to partner with International Truck to develop this custom version of our EXP analyzer is consistent with Midtronics’ goal of continual advancement in the areas of battery and electrical diagnostics in the commercial transportation market," said Will Sampson, Midtronics director of global product management-major accounts. Sampson added, "Our early success with the EXP platform with key vehicle OEMs has created excitement at Midtronics, further fortifying our drive for additional innovations and enhancements."

The EXP-1000 HD for International Truck includes advancements in the areas of commercial vehicle algorithms and test routines. This includes a simplified voltage drop test that troubleshoots common disruptions between the battery and electrical system, an integrated alternator test that incorporates a current probe for additional accuracy, and direct to PC report generation capabilities. Additionally, the EXP offers an advanced "Technician Assist Mode" that allows the field technician to output data from the EXP to their diagnostic platform in real time, simultaneously making the data available for remote viewing by technical support specialists throughout International’s service network. This feature will be available via International’s "EZ-Tech" network, which will also provide software updates to the units in the field.

The PSC-550 CC Power Supply and Battery Charger provides a highly effective means of supporting the electrical demand that is created during many service processes, including on-vehicle control computer updates. Additionally, the unit also senses when the vehicle’s battery requires charge during these other processes and automatically adjusts to charge the battery while the technician is performing other service operations. The device has been designed to protect against overcharging the battery and offers precise charging of many battery types, including AGM, gel and deep-cycle batteries. The combination of these features makes the unit ideal for delivery charging of new trucks, according to Midtronics.

The development and validation of both tools was a collaborative effort between Midtronics’ Major Accounts team and International’s dealers and truck engineering groups.
