DENVER, Colo. Gates Corp. has introduced a new high-temperature, peroxide-cured EPDM coolant hose for heavy-duty applications, including trucks, buses and off-road equipment. The new Gates FleetRunner Hi-Temp Straight Coolant Hose is a high-temperature, high-performance, high-mileage, less expensive alternative to silicone or sulphur-cured coolant hose, the company says.
Because of increasingly stringent emission standards, newer heavy-duty vehicles are manufactured with smaller engine compartments and more emissions equipment and engine accessories, resulting in exceedingly high under hood temperatures. These vehicles require coolant hose that can withstand the low engine airflow and high-heat conditions.
Gates FleetRunner Hi-Temp Straight Coolant Hose offers a temperature rating of -40 degrees to +300 degrees Fahrenheit. Its tube and cover are constructed with peroxide-cured EPDM that is higher performing and less expensive than silicone or sulphur-cured EPDM coolant hose, according to Gates. The abrasion-resistant material is designed to resist electrochemical degradation, binds to system components for fewer cold water leaks, and has a lower water permeation rate than silicone hose, the company states.
Gates says its FleetRunner Hi-Temp Straight Coolant Hose provides superior performance with a working pressure up to 50 percent higher than a typical silicone coolant hose, offering greater protection for tough fleet and heavy-duty applications.
“Like other products in the heavy-duty FleetRunner product line, such as Gates FleetRunner Micro-V Belt and V-Belt, our new high-temperature straight coolant hose is engineered to prolong fleet maintenance intervals, reduce downtime, and provide the best overall cost per mile," said Mark Kostecki, Gates product marketing manager, automotive.
The Gates FleetRunner Hi-Temp Straight Coolant Hose is available in three-foot lengths and was showcased this week at the HDAW’13 tradeshow.
