LEES SUMMIT, Mo. CCAR, the Coordinating Committee for Automotive Repair, has announced a new partnership with MINDDRIVE, a local Kansas City-based non-profit. MINDDRIVE’s mission is to inspire students to learn, expand their vision of the future and to have a positive impact on urban workforce development.
MINDDRIVE serves 36 students from the urban core of Kansas City, currently working with more than five area schools. There are 24 students participating in Automotive Design Studio and 12 in Contemporary Communications. The students choose their course and also are given the freedom to align with the particular aspect of the project that interests them most. Mentors play a huge role in finding what that spark is for each student, then figuring out a way to inspire them in that direction.
"We’re proud to be included among a first-class roster of MINDRIVE partners that includes Hertz, Bridgestone, KCP&L, VML, SONIC Drive-In and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)," said Charles Ayers, president of CCAR. "These are really cool people doing really cool stuff."
According to Linda Buchner, president of MINDDRIVE, "CCAR is an important partner to MINDDRIVE in helping train our mentors, who in turn train our students in the importance of shop safety and being good stewards of the environment with our car projects. They’ve provided us with the tools needed to make our shop much more professional and a true expression of real world application for our students. Anyone who leaves MINDDRIVE to work in the automotive industry will be far ahead of their peers by having the training from CCAR."
