Jasper Engines & Transmissions to Purchase Remanufacturing Facility

Jasper Engines & Transmissions has purchased the assets of a former remanufacturer of gas and diesel engines. A letter of intent has been signed to purchase the 83,000-square-foot engine remanufacturing plant in Willow Springs, Mo. The plant, located approximately 60 miles east of Springfield, has been closed since December of 2003. Jasper plans to restart the plant by July 5th, producing 40 to 45 gas engines a day, and will expand into producing transmissions.

Ira Davis Joins ARI

Ira Davis has joined ARI as vice president of purchasing and logistics. Davis brings broad experience in purchasing, remanufacturing and distribution to ARI. He comes from Forecast Products where he served as vice president, general manager for the company, with a focus on importing and distribution of automotive components, since 2002. Prior to that assignment, he worked with Beck/Arnley from 1976 to 2001.

Venture Owner Winget Resigns from Board

Macomb County businessman Larry Winget, cofounder and majority owner of bankrupt auto supplier Venture Corp., has resigned from the board amid a lawsuit that alleges he and his family siphoned millions of dollars from the company. Winget’s son and son-in-law, executives with the struggling auto-plastics firm, have been placed on paid leaves of absence.

AFL Automotive to Restructure Mexican Operations

Alcoa is reorganizing its Alcoa Fujikura Ltd. (AFL) Automotive operations in Piedras Negras and Torreon, Coahuila, Mexico. The operations of AFL Automotive in Mexico employ approximately 24,000 associates (4,464 in Piedras Negras and 4,139 in Torreon), and produce, and distribute electrical distribution systems and other products for the North American light and heavy vehicle markets.

Centrix Financial Wants to Increase Presence in Auto Racing

Denver-based Centrix Financial is expanding its commitment to auto racing for the 2004 season. In addition to sponsoring the Grand Prix of Denver for the second year, the financial services firm is also sponsoring car number 17, a Honda G-Force driven by Victor Meira of the Rahal/Letterman team, in this May’s Indy 500 race.

Alcan Plans to Split in Two

Alcan Inc. on Tuesday announced plans to split in two. Alcan intends to spin off essentially all of its aluminum rolled products businesses into a separate, as-yet unnamed independent company. The new company would produce beverage can, automotive sheet and other flat products.

Modine Named One of the 100 Best Corporate Citizens for Fifth Year in a Row

For the fifth year in a row, Modine Manufacturing has been named one of the 100 Best Corporate Citizens for 2004 by Business Ethics magazine. Modine finished 32nd overall, the same ranking as last year, ahead of such companies as Delphi, Eastman Kodak, Fed Ex and PepsiCo, Inc.

Earl Scheib Sold to Elden Holding Group

Automotive paint shop chain Earl Scheib Inc. has been sold to Elden Holding Group LLC for $17 million in cash. Elden Holding Group is a California-based real estate investment firm.

SPX Contech Wins $18 Million in New Business

Contech, a unit of SPX Corp., has received several new die-cast projects, with an estimated annual revenue of approximately $18 million. Production of each of the five new components will launch by January 2006.
