Brake Parts Inc. Announces Plans for Motorsports Involvement in 2005

Brake Parts announced this week that it plans to continue its long-standing involvement with motorsports programs throughout 2005, to further build brand recognition and loyalty for its Raybestos brand brakes. According to Larry Hoofnagle, director of marketing communications, these programs play an important role in maintaining an awareness of the Raybestos brand with brake service professionals and consumers.

Cooper Standard Auto Opens Facility in China

Cooper Standard Automotive, a global supplier of automotive components, has begun operations in Kunshan, China, for the manufacture and sales of automotive noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) control systems. The company will soon break ground for an expanded manufacturing, research and development facility in the city.

Advance Auto Parts Announces Senior Executive Promotions

To support continued growth of the company, auto parts and accessories retailer Advance Auto Parts has promoted two of its senior executives to new positions. Larry Castellani, Advance chairman and CEO announced the promotions today. Jeff Gray has been promoted to the newly created post of executive vice president from senior vice president. Gray also serves as CFO for the company and will continue to serve in this capacity as well. Dave Mueller has been promoted to executive vice president, merchandising and marketing from senior vice president, merchandising and marketing.

Federal-Mogul Plan Can Be Rejected, Court Says

Southfield, Mich.-based Federal-Mogul Corp.’s reorganization plan can be rejected by the pension trustees of its British unit, a London court ruled Tuesday.

Northwood Honors Eight Aftermarket Professionals

Northwood University honored eight automotive aftermarket leaders with its annual Automotive Aftermarket Education Award. Northwood presented the awards last week in Las Vegas during Automotive Aftermarket Industry Week.

Timken Board Elects Phillip Cox as Director

Timken’s board of directors has elected Phillip Cox, president and CEO of Cox Financial Corp., to serve as a director of the company. In 1972, Cox founded Cox Financial Corp., a provider of financial and estate planning services based in Cincinnati, Ohio. He presently serves as chairman of the board of Cincinnati Bell and the University of Cincinnati, and on the boards of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland, Bethesda Hospital, Cinergy Corp., Touchstone Mutual Funds and Long Stanton Manufacturing Co.

Car Care Council Women’s Board Announces Winners of the Automotive Communications Awards

The Car Care Council Women’s Board (WB) has announced the winners of the new Automotive Communications Awards (ACA). The awards were presented during the Women’s Board reception on Tuesday, Nov. 2 in Las Vegas, during AAPEX. The Automotive Communications Awards recognize companies/agencies that provide automotive information through outstanding advertising, marketing and PR efforts. The business-to-consumer awards have 14 categories for entry targeted to women, including car care clinics and direct mail piece or campaign/newsletter. The business-to-business awards consist of 21 categories with such options as logo design and special promotions and promotional events/trade show.

Edelbrock Reports Results for First Quarter of Fiscal 2005

Edelbrock Corp. has reported sales and earnings for the first quarter of its 2005 fiscal year, which ended on Sept. 25. For the first quarter, Edelbrock reported that revenues decreased 5.9 percent to $26,032,000 from revenues of $27,658,000 in the same period a year ago. Net income for the quarter was $350,000, or 6 cents per diluted share, compared to net income of $467,000, or 9 cents per diluted share, for the first quarter of fiscal 2004.

CARS 2004 Sets Attendance Record

The Automotive Service Association has reported that a new attendance record was set with this year’s Congress of Automotive Repair and Service (CARS). More than 700 people were in attendance at this year’s show, held at the Flamingo Las Vegas during Automotive Aftermarket Industry Week (AAIW). CARS is the premier event of the Automotive Service Association’s (ASA) Mechanical Division.

Transtar Launches New UV Paint Refinish System at NACE

Last week at the NACE Show in Las Vegas, Transtar Autobody Technologies introduced a new UV paint system for the collision repair industry. The new Ultra V product line is a breakthrough in fast cure time for spot repairs, improving productivity, according to the company.

SKF Reports Strong Profit and Sales Development in the Third Quarter

SKF, a leading producer of bearings, seals and related products, has reported its financial results for the third quarter of 2004. For the third quarter, SKF has reported a 14.1 percent increase in sales, measured in local currencies, compared to the same period in 2003. The operating margin for the quarter was 10.6 percent (8.4). The price/mix increased by 2.3 percent. Cash flow continued to be strong.
