Goodyear Announces New Financing Facility in Europe

Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. announced that Goodyear Dunlop Tires Europe BV affiliate, a joint venture between Goodyear and Japan’s Sumitomo Rubber Industries, has arranged a new pan-European accounts receivable securitization facility.

Intermet Plans to Close Sturtevant Plants

Intermet Corp. said it will close its Racine die-casting and machining plants, both of which are located in Sturtevant, Wis. The plants are expected to close during the second quarter of 2005. The facilities currently employ 603 people, including hourly and salaried staff, and manufacture aluminum die castings for the automotive industry.

Clevite Engine Parts Announces 2004 Engine Builders of the Year for NASCAR Series

Clevite Engine Parts has announced the Clevite Engine Builders of the Year for the 2004 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series, NASCAR Busch Series and the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. Randy Dorton, director of engine development with Hendrick Motorsports and builder for the No. 24 car of Jeff Gordon, posthumously received the coveted Engine Builder of the Year Award for the NEXTEL Cup Series. Dorton’s award was formally announced at the yearly NEXTEL Cup Series banquet on December 3. Dorton’s wife, Dianne, accepted on his behalf. This is the second Clevite Engine Builder of the Year honor for Dorton.

Hayes Lemmerz International is entertaining offers for its Chattanooga, Tenn., plant but will continue production if it doesn’t sell, a company official said Monday.

CTNA Suspends Tire Production at Kentucky Plant

Continental Tire North America Inc. (CTNA) has indefinitely suspended tire production at its Mayfield, Ky., manufacturing facility. CTNA said mixing and warehousing operations will continue.

790 Federal-Mogul Jobs Saved

Federal-Mogul Corp., in a move that counters the trend of U.S. companies sending manufacturing jobs overseas, has decided to keep nearly 800 Michigan jobs from heading to Mexico. Gov. Jennifer Granholm and the Michigan Economic Development Corp. (MEDC) announced the approval of a Single Business Tax incentive Tuesday worth more than $65 million to keep Federal-Mogul from moving 790 jobs abroad. Meanwhile, the Southfield, Mich.-based auto parts maker said it would invest $6 million of its own money in the operations.

Affinia Group Headquarters to be Located in Michigan

According to a recent article in the Detroit Free Press, Affinia Group Inc., which owns the former Dana Automotive Aftermarket Group, is moving its headquarters to Pittsfield Township, Mich. The group will also create 145 jobs as a result of the move.
