More Than 300,000 Tests Taken in CCAR’s S/P2 Online Training

The Coordinating Committee For Automotive Repair (CCAR) has surpassed 300,000 tests taken in its "S/P2" online training in Safety and Pollution Prevention for the automotive repair industry.

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — The Coordinating Committee For Automotive Repair (CCAR) has surpassed 300,000 tests taken in its “S/P2” online training in Safety and Pollution Prevention for the automotive repair industry.

“We are extremely gratified at the response of schools and shops in the industry to the S/P2 program, as shown in the newest test total,” said Lirel Holt, chairman of CCAR’s board of directors. “It means that every day, current and future technicians are learning how to avoid injuries and illness in the shop, while also lessening the negative impact on the environment of a repair shop’s daily activities.”

CCAR’s Internet-based “S/P2” training addresses key safety and pollution prevention issues facing professionals working in automotive service and collision repair, as well as students in automotive training programs. S/P2 was developed by CCAR in concurrence with U.S. EPA and OSHA standards, which require that shop personnel and students be trained at least annually on safety and environmental regulations.

CCAR makes S/P2 available free of charge to automotive training programs — both auto mechanical and collision repair — at high schools, career/vocational schools, post-secondary schools and participating programs now represent more than 78,000 students across the U.S. Most recently, General Motors adopted S/P2 as part of the curriculum for the GM ASEP and BSEP programs, and DaimlerChrysler approved S/P2 for its College Automotive Program (CAP).

In all, S/P2 is currently in use in more than 2,500 schools and automotive shops in all 50 states, as well as parts of Canada and the Caribbean.

For shops, the business edition of S/P2 is available for a $299 annual subscription per facility. The S/P2 courseware tracks technician/student progress through the training, grades tests and is constantly updated as federal and state laws change.

CCAR, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, also operates “CCAR-GreenLink,” the National Environmental Compliance Assistance Center for Automotive Repair, in cooperation with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
