SPEED Channel to Debut New Truck Show in February

Next month, SPEED Channel will launch a new show dedicated to the growing truck segment. The show, called "Truck Universe," is the latest program from Brenton Productions, a long-time producer of information-based, how-to television programming for the automotive do-it-yourselfer, hobbyist and performance markets.

SWANSEA, MASS — Next month, SPEED Channel will launch a new show dedicated to the growing truck segment. The show, called “Truck Universe,” is the latest program from Brenton Productions, a long-time producer of information-based, how-to television programming for the automotive do-it-yourselfer, hobbyist and performance markets.

Forty-eight percent of SPEED Channel viewers are more likely to own a truck than the average TV viewer, according to the network’s research.

“We believe Truck Universe taps an untapped niche for SPEED Channel,” said Robert Ecker, SPEED Channel VP of programming. “And with the proven success of Brenton Productions’ “Two Guys Garage,” the program has a true sense of real credibility and is a great fit in our automotive lineup.

The show will be hosted by Matt Steele and Mike “Buzz” Thompson. Viewers will be familiar with Steele, who has hosted motor sport events for more than a decade, most recently as pit reporter for SPEED’s “Monster Jam” series. Thompson, an ASE Certified Master Auto Technician, has spent his career as a mechanic, shop foreman and technical advisor to the automotive industry.

“Truck ownership is growing at a rapid rate,” explained Steele. “Consider that since 1990, truck registrations have increased more than sixty percent. These truck owners want to see new ideas and products for their vehicles, and Truck Universe is the place.”

“We’re in a position to make featured products the ‘heroes’ of our show,” said Thompson. “Working them into the dialog naturally and discussing them in a comfortable, conversational manner is a concept that has worked for Brenton Productions for more than a dozen years.”

The show will debut on the SPEED Channel the third week in February 2005.
