Oshkosh Truck Corp. Appoints Desmond Soh to President, Asian Operations

OSHKOSH, WI — Oshkosh Truck Corp. has appointed Desmond Soh as president of its Asian Operations. Working out of the Beijing office, Soh will direct overall Oshkosh Truck activities in Asia with a key focus on business expansion.

"Desmond’s background and successful track record in overseeing business development, manufacturing operations and purchasing functions in Asia was a natural fit for the company’s strategic approach,” said Charles Szews, Oshkosh Truck, president and chief operating officer. “As we continue to grow our businesses worldwide, Desmond’s guidance will be essential in expanding the Oshkosh brands into Asia, which we see as an important market opportunity.” The company recently announced a bid award contract with Beijing Capital International Airport for six airport rescue fire fighting vehicles and two snow removal units.

Prior to joining Oshkosh Truck, Soh was employed by Flextronics as vice president, chief representative for government relations in China, and prior to that he held general management responsibilities for several Shanghai and north China manufacturing operations. Before joining Flextronics in 2003, Soh was with General Motors and Delphi in China and Singapore, including serving as the managing director for a green field start up in China and as purchasing director for the Asia Pacific region.

Soh holds a diploma in Mechanical Engineering from Singapore Polytechnic, a bachelor’s degree in Business from RMIT Australia, and an MBA from Brunel University, United Kingdom. He is a Singapore National who is fluent in multiple Chinese dialects, as well as Mandarin, Malay and English.
