Automechanika: Sustainability, Digitization Among Top Trends

Sustainability and digitization were discussed heavily by exhibitors at Automechanika Frankfurt.

During Automechanika 2022, sustainability and digitization were among the top trends for companies planning for 2023 and beyond.

As the industry becomes more increasingly aware of the effects of climate change and CO2 emissions, products made out of recyclable materials have become more prevalent.

Simultaneously, offering digital tools has also become a necessity in today’s online world.

Continental presented innovations for belt drive components aimed at protecting the climate and environment. The company also announced a new packaging concept that includes smaller and lighter boxes for a more climate-friendly packaging approach.

“The raw materials used already have a significantly lower global warming potential,” says Hermann Schulte, responsible for the timing belt development for the Automotive Aftermarket at Continental.

Additionally, the company shared plans of a new digital service tool for configurable checklists to digitalize the service process and support error-free working.

ZF Aftermarket also shared their strategies for sustainability, highlighting efforts to maximize the lifecycle of its products.

The company also debuted a new digital tool called ZF [pro]Tech e-Power Expert, which is a module with which car workshops can present their electromobility expertise to drivers in a professional and attractive manner. It includes templates and information material for all advertising formats and channels.

“As a one-stop shop for e-mobility, we are also significantly expanding the product portfolio for electric and hybrid vehicles and are now offering e-fluids for electric and hybrid vehicles for the first time. But ZF [pro]Tech partners can also rely on other services available – our famous trainings, which are an important part of our large-scale know-how transfer to the workshop,” said Dr. Holger Hättich, head of customers & strategy at ZF Aftermarket.

HELLA also offered product and service solutions for the independent aftermarket to successfully manage change. The HELLA Tech World offers comprehensive information on products in the form of explanatory videos, technical information and assembly instructions. In addition, partners can register at the HELLA Academy to deepen their knowledge in practical exercises on different vehicles.

As the industry continues to adapt and change, these are just a few of many companies that are moving towards sustainability and digitization.
