Northwood Recruiting For Aftermarket Chair Position

The candidate will serve as chair for the Automotive Aftermarket Management department.

Northwood University is recruiting for the Automotive Aftermarket Management chair position at its residential campus in Midland, Mchigan.

The not-for-profit university seeks a dynamic individual with strong interpersonal skills, a proven track record of professional success in the automotive aftermarket industry and a strong record of training and/or teaching. The position will begin in the Fall 2020 semester. The candidate will be hired with the rank of assistant professor and will serve as chair for the Automotive Aftermarket Management department. The university offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in business.

The successful candidate will be responsible for shaping and leading the academic content and quality of the undergraduate Automotive Aftermarket Management program. The Automotive Aftermarket Management curriculum covers all aspects of the motor vehicle replacement parts industry including performance, off-road and heavy duty. Teaching load is four courses per semester. In addition to teaching Automotive Aftermarket Management courses, the candidate may also be required to teach a variety of undergraduate marketing and/or management courses.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for working collaboratively with the Automotive Marketing and Management department chair to promote and grow Northwood University’s automotive-related programs. As department chair, the successful candidate will be responsible for recruiting and mentoring qualified adjunct faculty members to teach courses within the program. The department chair will work with industry professionals and groups to promote the degree program and provide opportunities for student internships and employment. The department chair will be responsible for supervising student internships and facilitating other experiential learning opportunities, such as student participation in industry trade shows. 

Additional responsibilities and expectations may include participation in ongoing curriculum planning and review; research and scholarly activities; professional and instructional development; university committee activities; student recruitment and retention activities; and other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications: 

• Master’s degree in a business-related discipline.

• Five or more years of experience directly related to the automotive aftermarket industry

• Experience training and/or teaching. (Experience teaching undergraduate courses preferred.)

Preferred Qualifications:

• Earned doctorate in a related field from an accredited institution (Ph.D., DBA, D.M. considered)

• Well-developed oral and written communication skills in a variety of delivery formats

• Ability to interact effectively with a wide and diverse range of students and colleagues

Salary and benefits:
