H2 MOBILITY To Debut Hydrogen Fuel At Upcoming UNITI Expo In Stuttgart

By 2023, up to 400 hydrogen refueling stations are to be installed in Germany, providing nationwide coverage. Hydrogen-powered fuel cell vehicles produce neither climate-damaging CO2 nor nitrogen oxides.

At the UNITI Expo in Stuttgart, H2 MOBILITY Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG will be presenting hydrogen – the emission-free fuel – for the first time, and with it the service station technology for deliveries, storage, refueling and payment. The company says this is a field that is becoming increasingly important for service station owners, as is illustrated by the current ongoing debate in Germany over the introduction of blue environmental stickers that would allow only diesel vehicles fitted with modern emission-reduction technology into restricted environmental areas.

Hydrogen-powered fuel cell vehicles produce neither climate-damaging CO2 nor nitrogen oxides (NOx) that are known to damage the environment and be harmful to human health.

The company says it is easy to refuel the vehicle. Hydrogen-powered vehicles can be refueled at a pump just like a conventional vehicle. At a pressure of 700 bar, it takes about three minutes to fill the tank. Hydrogen stations can be delivered as turn-key units and integrated into conventional filling stations. Today, they mostly consist of standardized components for storage, compression and refueling. They can be flexibly adapted to the layout of the service station to save space.

“Hydrogen technology has made impressive progress in recent years. Both the individual technical components and the complete stations are suited to everyday use and can be integrated in the operations of the service station,” said Nikolas Iwan, managing director of H2 MOBILITY. “Germany is a trailblazer in the field of hydrogen infrastructure, but other countries too, including the U.K., France, Scandinavian states and the U.S., are stepping up their engagement.”

Mission Hydrogen Infrastructure

By 2023, up to 400 hydrogen refueling stations are to be installed in Germany, providing nationwide coverage. The infrastructure is to be developed in several stages. H2 MOBILITY will be setting up and operating up to 100 hydrogen refueling stations in the major urban centers of Berlin, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Munich, the Rhine-Ruhr area and Stuttgart. Stations also will be established along the main routes connecting these centers. H2 MOBILITY says it will be responsible for all aspects of planning and operation, including the design of the service station network and the establishment and operation of up to 400 hydrogen stations, including the payment system and knowledge management.

At the UNITI Expo, hydrogen dispensers and fuel cell cars will be showcased. The company will be located in Hall 5, booth No. 5C50, taking place on June 14-16, in Stuttgart.
