Auto Care Association Joins Multi-Association Letter Opposing Tariffs Against China

In the letter, the associations outlined how the tariffs would be harmful to U.S. consumers and businesses, existing supply chains as well as American jobs.

The Auto Care Association has joined 44 other trade associations this week representing a range of major companies in the business community in a letter written to the White House urging the Trump administration to not impose tariffs on U.S. imports from China.

While the groups support the administration’s efforts to address China’s discriminatory trade policies and practices, the Auto Care Association believes the imposition of tariffs would “trigger a chain reaction of negative consequences for the U.S. economy, provoking retaliation; stifling U.S. agriculture, goods and services exports; and raising costs for businesses and consumers,” as stated in the letter.

In the letter, the associations outlined how the tariffs would be harmful to U.S. consumers and business, existing supply chains as well as American jobs. The groups urged the administration to allow industry experts to weigh in on the economic impact of these policies and to work with the business community to identify a solution to this problem.

This new joint association letter follows the Auto Care Association’s initial letter sent to the White House last week urging the administration to reconsider the steel and aluminum tariffs.

Switch EV Trainer Provides Tailored EV Tech Training

The latest forecasts from global technology intelligence firm ABI Research found that global EV sales are expected to grow by 21% in 2024 and 19% in 2025. This represents a significant decline from growth rates of 31% in 2023 and 60% in 2022, ABI Research said.

“A shortage of chargers and limited ranges are not to blame for this decline. It’s evident from sales data and statements by Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) that the EV market is slowing down and failing to meet its targets,” Dylan Khoo, an electric vehicles industry analyst, said. “While insufficient charging infrastructure and range limitations are often cited as reasons for this slowdown, they don’t fully explain the stagnation, especially considering that these aspects are actually improving rather than deteriorating. Additionally, these explanations fail to consider the region-specific trends driving the EV sector changes.”
