Frost & Sullivan has recognized Karamba Security, a provider of autonomous cybersecurity software for connected and autonomous vehicles, with the 2017 North American New Product Innovation Award for the Automotive Industry.
Industry leaders agree that tomorrow’s autonomous vehicles need to be secure against cybersecurity threats in a safe and predictable manner and, ultimately, to self-heal. Karamba’s Autonomous Security achieves that by autonomously hardening externally connected electronic control units (ECUs) and preventing hacker infiltration with zero false positives. Karamba’s innovative approach was recognized as unique and suitable to the industry’s intolerance to false positives, which mistakenly block legitimate vehicle commands, thereby introducing safety risks.
When Frost & Sullivan evaluated the market, it analyzed customer impact, measuring against these criteria: customer service experience; purchase and ownership experience and price/performance value. In a second category, “new product attributes,” it was measured against: match to needs; reliability; quality; positioning and design. According to Frost & Sullivan analysts, Karamba was the best across all categories.

Reliability was a key factor in the analysts’ evaluation. “Karamba applies prevention that is based on the customer’s factory settings. This prevents attacks without the risk of false positives or false negatives. Because Karamba’s cybersecurity policy is based on factory settings and does not rely on malware signatures, it prevents attacks without any need for new malware signature updates regardless of connectivity,” said Venkatraman. “Karamba’s prevention approach provides zero-day protection across the protected product’s lifecycle.”
