Wells Vehicle Electronics has unveiled a new automotive diagnostic solution that transforms Bluetooth-enabled smartphones and tablets into an OBDII scan tool. The GoTech Mobile OBDII Diagnostic Tool, which won the Best New Product in the Tool & Equipment category at AAPEX last year, enables DIYers to diagnose powertrain trouble codes, clear check engine lights and perform a variety of other diagnostic functions. The new tool – which the company says exemplifies the brand’s tagline “Complex Problems. Easy Solutions.” – is compatible with iPhone, iPad and Android devices.

With the GoTech device and free app, consumers can use their compatible mobile devices to scan vehicles and monitor performance, define powertrain trouble codes, access Wells’ proprietary library of more than 10 million diagnostic records compiled by ASE Master technicians and also clear check engine lights. The device can store up to 10 vehicles.

The GoTech device includes a “Freeze Frame” option, allowing vehicle performance information at the time the code is set to be emailed to the user, a friend or automotive repair shop. Users also can email the trouble code information and troubleshooting/repair tips. Once a user has completed diagnosis and repairs, the “Clear Codes” function gives consumers the ability to clear a vehicle’s check engine light. The tool works with OBDII vehicles (model years 1996 and newer).
