Wells Vehicle Electronics this week unveiled a new automotive diagnostic solution that transforms consumers’ Bluetooth-enabled smartphones and tablets into an OBD II scan tool. The GoTech Mobile OBD II Diagnostic Tool, which can been seen in the company’s AAPEX booth No. 1833, enables DIYers to diagnose powertrain trouble codes, clear check engine lights and perform a variety of other diagnostic functions. The new tool – exemplifying the brand’s tagline “Complex Problems. Easy Solutions.” – is compatible with iPhone, iPad and Android devices.
With the GoTech device and free app, consumers can use their compatible mobile devices to scan vehicles and monitor performance, define powertrain trouble codes, access Wells’ proprietary library of more than 10 million diagnostic records compiled by Master ASE-certified technicians, and clear check engine lights. The device can store up to 10 vehicles.
“While other diagnostic tools require in-app purchases, costly updates and separate subscriptions, the GoTech app and all available diagnostic information is included with the purchase of this powerful new device,” said David Boer, vice president of sales and marketing, Wells Vehicle Electronics. “This tool is a game-changer for the DIY vehicle owner because it provides easy access to the information needed to more proactively monitor vehicle performance and identify a variety of problems.”
The GoTech device includes a “Freeze Frame” option, allowing vehicle performance information at the time the code set to be emailed to yourself, a friend or automotive repair shop. You also can email the trouble code information and troubleshooting/repair tips. Once you have completed diagnosis and repairs, the “Clear Codes” function gives consumers the ability to clear a vehicle’s check engine light. The tool works with all OBD II vehicles (model years 1996 and newer).
