Reuters has reported that Japan’s three top carmakers are expanding the already significant global recall of vehicles that feature airbags made by Takata Corp.
According to data from Reuters, more than 10 automakers since 2008 have built more than 31 million cars fitted with the potentially defective air bags. Reuters stated that globally, Toyota Motor Corp and Nissan Motor Co will recall approximately 6.5 million vehicles. Honda also is recalling vehicles with the airbags, however, the total number has not been provided.
Six deaths have been linked to the defective Takata airbags, which are reported to inflate with explosive force.
